Class A amps can be used, but they aren't nearly as efficient as Class D amps...D are about 80% and A is about 60%. Class A amps send higher frequencies, class D's send low frequencies, which is why they are more efficient, i think so?

Actually any amp that can put out enough power to power subs is good but it all has to do with efficiency. Class D amps are good for subs cuz they cant play high frequencies but are extremely efficient at what they do, about 80% or higher for a Class D amp, but a Class A amp is only about 10-20% effiecient cuzz they draw max current all the time no matter if they are playing music or not. Youre wrong about the efficiency, a class AB amp will have about a 60% efficiency rating but Class A are about 10-20% cuz they draw max current whether there is a signal or not, but they are very clear and have the lowest THD's and have the highest signal to noise ratios
