capacitor ground problem

I've got a capacitor installed to keep my lights from dimming and today I noticed that the ground wire near where it is attached to my truck's frame is frayed almost to the point of breaking I believe. It's mounted to the same bolt the amp's ground is.

How do I handle the repair without damaging things or hurting myself? Can I just unhook the positive cable then the ground, make the repair then hook back up in reverse order? Do I need to discharge the capacitor first?

I've got the card that came with the capacitor to charge it. If I read correctly on the card it says to hook up the card to the capacitor then connect the positive and negative wires together until it is discharged. I need to take the fuse to the positive cable out first right?

Thanks!

where i do respect everyone recommending the big 3 on here i have to agree that caps do make a noticeable difference. my girlfriend and i have the same car, im running 1400 rms shes only running about 700 and her lights dim all the time, and voltage drops like crazy.

my stinger batt and stinger 3 farad cap keep my voltage at 12 volts and up. never drops below unless im sitting still for a considerable amt of time.

OP, every instruction manual on a cap ive read says to ground the cap separate from the amp ground.
