I'll start by saying that Caps don't really help much, but I won't flame you for buying one. I don't agree with your decision, but I'll help anyway.

BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE DO!!! WE FUCKING HELP PEOPLE!!!

Anyway...

There should be no preparation. Positive from the battery should go to one post, then I believe there's 2 other post, one should be positive out, and another should be ground. (I've never worked with a Cap, so I'm not sure) Make sure you wired it correctly. Just because it's getting power doesn't mean it's wired properly. Make sure you have a nice ground for it, too.

that acually has 2 terminals.

1 pos. 1 neg.

and it does not stay on all the time.

turn on your lights/ac and it should dislpay voltage. Do this with the car off and you will see it drain down to 11 volts then start to flash as a warning.

It only lights up when under loads.

I let my brother make this post using my log in, I advised him to toss the cap and just upgrade the big 3. Anyway.. he got the cap figured out but he broke the stud out of the top of the cap lol

so guess hell be looking for other means to figure out his problems without relying on them stupid band aids they call capacitors hahaha

thanks guys
