cap question

i am adding a 2nd battery to my system..i already have a 5 farad cap on my system now..would it be worse to leave the cap in with the 2nd batt just to use as a volt reader and possibly help a little? or is it just creating more unnecessary resistance? thanks in advance

also, I have a 2000-2500 wat system, running pos and neg 0ga wire from front batt to rear batt..with a fuse holder up front and in rear...what size fuse should i use? 200a? 250a?

thanks in advance guys

I would think that the cap would be 100% worthless in this setup with the second battery, but you might as well try it with and without it and see if it makes any difference in voltage at all. I would be suprised if a 5F cap could produce even 3A of continuous current. That is not really helping that much for a 2500W system. At full tilt, a 2500W system is pulling around 180A.

For your fuses, always fuse based on your wire's rating. If it is rated at 300A, then that is the fuse you should use. If you want to fuse smaller, you can, but it is not relly doing yourself any good. You are not protecting your amps with fuses, you are protecting wire.

dont waste your $$$ on a cap.... you got a second bat, just upgrade your alt if you need..
I already have a cap as we speak right now..I had purchased it before i came on this web site and never really thought of putting in a 2nd batt..but now that i see the bennifit in the 2nd batt, i want to put in the 2nd batt and just use the cap to read my volts at all time

I see what you are saying..as for the wire, how do i know the rating of the wire? I have 1/0 g from knu..how do i know what size fuse to use with size of wire? thanks again..

300A for any decent 1/0 wire. Knu is for sure decent. Like above, check with site to be 100% sure.

Depends on which wire it is. They have 2 types that are rated at 300A and one at 250. Go check out their website and see which one you have.
thanks..I went on the website and checked it out..thanks again
