Can you strap without strapping?

Not sure if I understood it correctly when i read it on a post but as I understood it you can take two mono amps and hook each up to a different voice coil of the subwoofer and put the gains at the exact same to power the sub opposed to strapping the amps through the master and slave switches and hooking the speaker terminals of the amps together. Any info is greatly appreciated.

sounds like potential for heat issues
I was thinkin something along this......

but even if u set the gains to the same, the amps might not be benched at the same amount of power.......so ulll probly burn a coil up?

i would just strap for safety.

i dont see why you couldnt, but only if they were the same amps.. are you planning on "strapping" another amp with your AQ1200D, if your strapping another aq1200d just do it like it says in the manual, i wouldnt do it with a different kind of amp, even if the gains are set differently.. it will still have different power output than the other amp..

That's a good point that they're not benched the same

I have two 2200d's and and one dual 2 ohm xxx sub. Could I strap them at 4 ohms instead of two even though it only shows it on the aq website as being strapped at 2 ohms?

If the amps are not strappable you can "gain match" them. Take a multimeter, and measure the AC output voltage of each amp. Use a test tone cd; when matching amps for a subwoofer I generally play a 40-50 hz note on repeat (I usually play my trucks resonance frequency). Try to get the exact same voltage output for each amp.

Edit: Keep the speakers disconnected too.

yes....then each amp will see 2ohm instead of 1ohm
