Can you play PS1 games on a PS2 SLIM??

I've heard that ps1 games don't work on the ps2 SLIM version.

Is it true?

My gf just bought me a ps2 slim and the only game that really interests me on playstation is puzzle fighter lol.

I play PS1 games on mine all the time.

Looks like some of the REALLY old PS1 games wont play, according to this, but "newer" ones will play....
