can you fix subs?

Can you really fix a blown sub? is it worth it?. I recently was given 2 MOFO15s for some work I did on a friends car, one plays one doesnt even move. I want to know if you can replace the voice coil with a recone. My local car audio shop guy says no, once the voice coil is gone the speaker is trash, but buy me being a car audio nut, and just not trusting someone who sells car audio new or used for salvage advise, and I read about people selling blown speakers. I know i read that you can recone some speakers on here and another site, I just want to know to want extent and can this one be done, thanks CAF fam

what makes them different from any other overhung sub that makes them sound 'shitty' ?

You will never get a power acoustik recone, but they can surley be reconed......

i have no idea what special ingredient they add to make them sound so bad.

but they still sound like shit, no matter if i know what makes them sound so bad or not.

so are you telling me that they can sound good? There's alot of things i can't explain, but it doesn't change anything. I've heard at least 10 different mofo set-ups, sealed ,ported and even IB. One thing was common among them.....terrible SQ.

If Fi or someone can recone them using their own softparts, more power to them....it HAS to be an improvement.

That, or the voice coil former is actually made of feces.

And Terra, that's sad. I think memphis M-Class amps and subs are very good bang for the buck. I have a pair of M-Class subs I bought in '05, and they've been put to twice their rated power for over 3 years and still sound great.

I'm not saying anything other then the fact that the 'mofo' is nothing more then a magnet with a voice coil, cone, surround, and spider....

so all subwoofers sound the same hunh? I mean if all subs are just a magnet,coil, cone, spider, and surround...they must all sound the same.

So why waste my money on a MAgnum or IDMAx when i can buy a Audiobahn
