Can some please look over these numbers? I'm using a excel file/program to design boxes now and I just want to make sure its accurate and I'm using it correctly. My main concern is the port length...i've never seen a port come out that short...lol

The box should be around 6.5 cubes net before sub and bracing displacement, tuned to 36hz.

I'd like a few members to check my numbers, as I am going to start the build sometime this morning. thanks in advance.

i get 17.52 port length with carstereo calculator

i get 20.15 port length with winisd

ive been told if the port doesnt curve around the back side, it increases the tuning, so maybe urs is right, maybe were both wrong if thats true.

I got about the same thing with winisd.

Here is a link to the program i used. Takes just a second or two to download it.

NEW Box Calculator.xls

and a link where i found the program...

http://www.caraudio.com/forums/enclosure-design-construction-help/444796-new-box-calculator.html#post6759940

If you click on the "box calculator" tab and scroll down to rect. slot port, my port length shows 15.493"...BUT if you click on the "rectangular slot port" tab it shows a layout of the box...in this tab it shows my port length at almost 23"

Thats another reason I am questioning this programs accuracy...

imho none of them are perfectly accurate. if u notice not any two match up on any given thing.

re calculator, that one u have, the other one ive downloaded from here, car stereo calculator, winisd

they all tell u something different.

from my tests(i havent used the calculator u have) winisd gets the port length correct when i compare it to the box designs on JL's website. i personally trust winisd more, its been around longer, but i have no proof its correct or better in any way

the car stereo calculator is pretty close to the jl box designs and is a lot easier/faster if u dont have winisd or know how to use it

If you use 30 inches instead of that funky 29.91 number I come up with right at 6.2 cubes after all displacement and bracing tuned to 36.75hz based on the 15.5 in port length you have now.

I came up with 6.6 before sub and bracing.

its close enough...awesome!!! thanks. I was pretty sure it had to be right. Just wanted someone to check it.

I guess I found my new "easy" way to design boxes...haha

thanks for all the responses!!!

ah i was using 6 cubes since thats what u said it would be after displacement
ok, lol...now i've confused myself...on car stereo, and 12volt, do you insert box volume after displacement, or before....Should i use 6.5 or 6?

my brain is not working today...

haha i guess ask RAM. i would think u would use 6 cubic foot. if u use 6.5 then it calculates it for that, then u take away the box size, the tuning would go up right?

im just a noob trying to help and failing miserably //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

What kind of power will you be using? 4-5ft^3 would work better assuming that you have at least 1kw for each sub...using a common chamber also cuts down on the required volume for each sub.
he will be sending about 1200rms to each sub...he requested 6cf, so that's what hes getting. He knows these subs very well, and has used them before, if i remember correctly...or he knows someone who used them. I know nothing about them, so i just went by what he said to use.

Ram, on the 12volt, car stereo, and all the other sites that figure port length, do i use net volume after displacement, or before? I assume after, so it WOULD be 6cf, right?
