Can you blow sound card outputs?

I get this fuzz/crackle sound coming out of the speakers on some notes, and I know its not the speakers because I have two different set-ups to which I can connect the speakers and they both do it. Also, my roommates laptop never has such difficulties.

I've got a macbook pro, and I usually turn the volume all the way up and then just adjust the volume on the other speakers. I've tried backing it down from all the way to up to about 3/4 - 7/8 of the way up, but it doesn't help and I get more general fuzz in the music.

help

I had the same problem with my home desktop. The motherboard's sound did the same thing, put in an old sound card and problem fixed. Probably some bad soldering or something. Goes bad eventually.

I had the same problem with my computer. I thought it was my Boston Acoustic speakers. Found out it was one of the traces on my creative audigy zs. You can try and update the audio drivers...

yeah He will just put in an old sound card into a macbook pro. No biggie.
Didn't read that part, sorry, my bad. They do make USB sound cards though. I don't know if they make Mac compatible ones but they are there. That is if the onboard sound is physically faulty, which it sounds like.
