Can SPL damage my ears?

I knew that it's gonna effecet my hearing, but i didn't realy care about it, not until i started to suffer from it as i mentioned in the First post...Setup - Old (1995 Production, to be more specific) Infinity 202a Which is the most under-rated amp i know. Rated: 600 Watts bridged into 2 ohms load. I modified it a little by some internal changes (wiring only, not replacing PWM or any other power supply...), 3 12" Subs. 1 L7, 2 CVR's. the CVR's are in a sealed 2 CU/FT , and the L7 is in a sealed 1.7 CU/FT. the Hardest tone of the system is between 35-40 Hz. In the last measurment i hit 147.5 Db, and in a daily song -

" HeartBreaker - Offer Nissim" i got to 144.8 Db.

the cables are 3 sets of 8 and 2 1Farad capacitors. VW Golf, GTI.
What meter?

I have about 145-6 DB SPL in my car, and i'm listening in that volume daily. lately i've notice that i my hearing of two things producing sound at the same time is poor.I mean that if i'm near noisy machine, and someone speaks to me, i can't understand what his telling me.

I can hear him only if he gets realy near me.

What are you say???

Anyone has that problem or expirianced somthing like it?
Yup.....many many years ago I had a system loud enough to shake things apart....of course, I was young, and it was cool to me then. I started noticing after a while, that if I was watching tv, and someone in the room was talking (whether to me or not) I was fubar'd. Couldn't make out the tv or the person. Kinda frightening, so nowadays I very rarely ever go to that volume....mostly just when I'm pissed really....

Edit: Gotta specify, I no longer have that system (this was in like 95...fosgate dsm amps, kicker comps, kicker mids and highs, ported box vented into the drivers compartment of a buick skylark with arseloads of deadening), nor is my system today quite as loud, but its dam close.

My system is hitting 140dB with music.. I have had it 4 months and now I have a constant ringing in my left ear.. Also it feels like it kinda has pressure in it.. So yes, it can (and probably will) harm your ears..

I'm gonna be a hater (Hey, I'm being honest) and say he's not doing that with music... I even doubt he's doing that with a tone... unless he paid a shop ALOT of money... the knowledge just doesn't seem to be there.
No offense to you man (the poster) but I just doubt that you can put together a 146, ESP daily, without knowing that loud noises hurt your ears..
I would have to agree with this.

145+ on music in a DD (non-walled) is quite an achievement...

Obviously...I bet 90% of the people on this forum have lost the hearing atleast a little
Everyone past the age of around 18 years is progressively losing his/her hearing, regardless of noise exposure //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

I definitely have noticed that I hear other noise instead of the person talking to me...but to me, that like having better than average hearing...if you can hear all the noises around you OVER the person talking to you, its like you have superior hearing.

Ex...if im at a bar and there is someone tlaking to me....all I hear are the conversations from people around me...and they drown out who Im talking to

I've lost "too much" hearing IMO.I've been to countless rock/metal concerts (easily over 30) then my many systems that keep getting quieter and quieter, fireworks (pyro tech. for a short period of time) and more factors contribute.I use the word "what" a good amount and people say I talk too loud when I'm talking normal.
