ok i got this wire from my girlfriends job and she works at a lighting business and they have tons or wire and what not....anyways i was there just hanging out and i came across this black 10 gauge copper wire, it is very flexible has a high strand count and its almost identical to car audio wire that i have used in the past...

now my question is can i use this wire in my next install....i took a pic of the wire next to some 14 gauge speaker wire that i just bought, i was planning on using the 14 gauge for my comps and rear fill...but now im thinking shit why not go 10 all the way around if this wire is okay for car audio...can anyone help me out here.......thanks

its labeled indoor use only and thats about all i know about it.

10 gauge is excessive for doors, but hey, overkill rules.

I figured it was probably used for low voltage wiring, probably inside track or conduit. There are very few applications where installers are allowed to use stranded wire (for permanent install in a building).

Otherwise common lamp cord is exactly the same as speaker wire. Fancy wire is sometimes oxygen free, tinned, or other custom stuff, but stranded copper wire is basically all the same.

The jacket/insulation varries quite a bit. Pretty much all othe uses are MORE demanding of insulation than audio wire, so almost any jacket will work well for audio.
