Can I still have wireless for laptopthrough router with no PC acting as access point

Long story short:

Fiance's family computer went dead. Router was wired to DSL Modem and then to that pc, and she used her laptop wirelessly. Since the death of the pc, her wireless went caput. I can connect her laptop directly to the dsl modem and everything's fine, but AFAIK there's nothing I can do to get wireless working again until she has another PC to act as the access point, correct? If I'm wrong, what can I do to gain wireless access with only the pc which I want to use wirelessly?

just plug your modem right into the router and set it up and you should be good to go, thats what i do...

you linksys router is a wireless router right? If so you should just be albe to reset the router and it will them put out a wireless signal.

Get a wireless router. Hook the modem up to the modem via the WAN port and since you said DSL, I'm assuming you can setup the router for PPPOE and enter the username and password in the router's admin control panel.

Basically, what I want to know is can the router act as a standalone and not HAVE to be connected to a pc when being used to send wireless signal to another laptop?

yes it can i have my router hooked directly up to my modem and every computer in the house is kooked up wirelessly

You dont need the pc unless it was being used as a dhcp or dns server, which it shouldn't be. Go here http://www.linksysfix.com/check/HomePage/index.htm?callerID=WS and as long as your router is listed under the Easy Link Connect section, download that app, and it should walk you through the reconfiguration.
