yeha i live in virginia and its 50 feet and the legal limit is 90 db, i got pulled over once for it but the cop let me off ..just told me to turn it down. The situation was also different, he said ppl were complaining for like two weeks so they were wating for me as i was leaving school. anyway u just lucked out. in my situation i wouldnt go to court, but you should.

Just like people stated before, if they don't like it, they should implement an ULTRASONIC frequency law. Stock radios can hit a lot louder than 95dbs. Also, fart cans, motorcycles, gopeds, etc should be outlawed too because they are louder than 95db.

Just like someone said earlier, make sure he was the full 50 feet away. If you know for sure that he wasn't try to admit his cars video for that days patrol as evidence. If you are not sure, or if you really were bumping irresponsibley, it might bite you in the butt.

here is the whole story. i was coming home from work. its a 4 lane street. 2 lanes on the left side a wide divider in the middle and 2 lanes on my side with a 40 mph speed limit. im going the limit on the far right lane in my area, and hes going the opposite way in on his side most likely at the speed limit as well. so im bumping it as usual. i dont see how im bumping irresponsibly if im going 40 mph. its not like im cruising at 15 and tryin to show off my system. anyways as we pass each other i THINK i see him turn his blinker on meanin he might turn around but i couldnt make anything of it cause my mirrors are useless when im bumping lol. anyways, he pulls me over and comes up to the window and says "can you hear me alright?", im just thinking yea, good joke jackass.anyways then hes like why were you listening to your music so loud, and i said, "cause i like it that loud and i spent over 2g's on everythign so im gonna enjoy it" not exactly but somethign of that nature. and hes like "well you know how i caught you right? i heard you before i ever saw you. you know anything over 50ft is illegal" blah blah blah. cites me and says ill get somethign in the mail to go to court or ill get a warrant. righ ton the ticket it says "speakers heard from over 50ft". what you guys think? oh yea, he said if i kept up the attitude (all i said is that i dont see cops pulling over harleys and stuff liek that) and he said he will confiscate my speakers. was he bsing me. btw im in california

I would fight it just for him being a prick. As long as you do the research, have a good defense planned, present yourself with respectable confidence, you may actually win. I fought a suspended license violation just because the cop was a prick. I had no attorney but have a good grasp on criminal law and ended up getting the case thrown out. The prosecuting attorney was pissed because he just lost to a couple of "thugs". As long as your defense has merit you have a good chance of getting it thrown out.

How did he know if it was you bumpin? He was driving the other direction on a busy road. There must have been many more cars around you at the time.

Was his window rolled up? How could he be sure it was you?

Was your stereo on when he walked up to the car? Just because someone owns a gun doesn't mean they are the culprit of a crime.

Did he see your speakers? If not, put some shitty ones in and do a demonstration. Make sure they are bad enough that it puts doubt in the judges mind.

Biggest thing is, don't show contempt or anger. Present yourself professionally and a lot of the time the judge will find it admirable. Don't argue mute points such as Harleys and such, this makes you look guilty and are trying to defend yourself. Only argue the technicalities of the case at hand.

I'm in cali too. I never got one but I would fight it. Take out all amps and subs. Then proceed to court and say it was not you. How could it be, you had your windows rolled up. Then tell them you only have a cheap radio and some door speakers. It was impossible to be you. If they need proof go show them. Judge will probably let you off with a warning. Then when you leave the court house wait for the cop and flip him off with a happy grin on your face.

Of course I've never been hassled by a cop for my radio.

I think you shouldn't have given him lip. When he asked you why you were listening to it so loud you told him because you liked it that loud? You should have told him that you didn't have your radio on or something to that extent. Sometimes it is better to smooth the feathers than it is to ruffle them. Just my .02

x2, maybe that'd be like me going 120mph everywhere in my 100,000 dollar viper and justifying it because I spent the money on 500hp and I want to use it. You already "cocked off" maybe in the cops eyes and you better believe he has it all written down, and from the citation as you describe it, merely being heard net you the offense. You may have to take it in the rear this time, but please dont be a stupid lyer like tRiGgEr suggested.

The only appropriate time to give lip back to cops that deserve it is when you know you're well within your rights...like anytime I go through a license checkpoint, and they wonder "what all them radios are in there". None of their business, and I've got a permit that says the same thing. although the vast majority of cops out there aren't the problem...like the population at large, it's only a few that feel like they need to be dicks.

That's a weak case man if he was driving down the opposite side of the road and cited you for a specific distance. Just use that, there is no guarantee he was 50ft away...
