I just got my utorrent working how i like it and i am filling up my computer extremely quickly. I have a few thousand songs on in windows media player and currently 9 discographies on utorrent. What would be a good external source to put all my music on? I am looking on a budget.... under $150 i guess??

Something that i might be able to take out and hook up to a car HU maybe?? I have never looked into anything in the computer area so i am a total noob and do not know what is good or bad.

Man look at the reviews on Seagates 54% gave a 1 star.

Look into Lacie drives, they are supposed to be one of the most reliable drives out. You can get a 750GB for 90 on newegg, or a 2TB for under 200.

lacie drives kick ***. i had a 40g i used to dj from and ran it for 3 ears with never a problem. sold it and changed to the 80g, ran that for 5 years and never a problem. now i use it in the car (bus powered ftmfw).

I agree with the folks that mentioned Western Digital. I just had to tear apart a Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 320 GB because the power supply/brain over heated. Drive still works, though. I got very lucky. It is now an internal drive, lol!

But yes, try to go with someone other than Seagate.

pretty much any external that fits your needs and budget will work fine since there are only a handful of hard drive manufacturers anyway(seagate/maxtor, western digital, hitachi/ibm, fujitsu, samsung). no matter what brand you buy it will have one of those drives in it anyway

the 1.5tb Seagates have some mega firmware issues so i would stay away from them on that drive, otherwise they are a solid choice

if you dont need more than 500gb storage look for a 2.5" portable drive

I'm a big fan of Lacie and Fantom drives...you can find real good deals all over the web, dealnews which has been posted is a great source...buy.com, tigerdirect and newegg.com as well...

i have never bought anything than 2.5" externals, but the 160gb 2.5" seagate external i have has been working fine

i also have a "JBOD" setup that uses 4 seagate drives(2x500gb+2x640gb) and those have given me no problems in the few years i have had them

i also have a 1gb seagate ES.2 drive which has been working great for about six months

i also have a 30gb OCZ SSD drive and i would highly recommend it. the thing is quiet, cool and fast(and i was using a 10k raptor before it)

the only drives i have had problems with lately are two 160gb western digital drives which both developed data errors, but the RMA process is great through WD

Thanks guys, i am just trying to see what to stray away from because i have never bought anything for my computer before besides my wireless mouse and keyboard. They had a 1TB for $100 @ the local staples. I think i might settle for that.
