The DVD mechanism in my Clarion VRX585USB is no longer working properly. The hu will rarely read discs of any kind as of now. The iPod connectivity works fine, but I'm not a big fan of using iPods in my vehicle.

What I want to know is if anyone of the forum has the parts and ability to repair my hu? I'm willing to pay whatever it takes (within reason).

Thanks...

You may just need a laser adjustment. Most lasers have a disc next to them. You turn the disk to raise and lower the laser. With time, the laser will sit in a different place and will have more difficulty reading discs. If you can take it apart and find that little plastic disc, you may be able to adjust the laser yourself. It's not easy though and it can be very time consuming. You may get it to read DVDs and not CDs or vice versa. You have to basically make a small adjustment, put it back together and test it. If it doesn't work, take it apart, make another adjustment and try again. The disc should click as you turn it. Go maybe 3 or 4 clicks each time. After you make an adjustment, it will be more likely to go out of alignment again so mark on the disc where you had it adjusted to. I've done it before and it's a PITA. I've realigned a home CD player, a couple of home DVD players, and my PS2 countless times. I've never done anything like that with any car products, but I'd assume it would be rather similar, maybe just on a smaller scale.

Thanks for the input, but the dvd mechanism has failed. I know this to be an absolute fact, because I've had the hu looked at by professionals already. They weren't able to locate the parts, so I thought I'd post on the forum to see if anyone here has them. This is a last act of desperation before I toss this thing in the trash.

pacparts.com?

you can't send the player back for warranty?
I've had it for over a year, and the extended warranty has been used. I shipped the hu to the warranty provider, but they couldn't find the parts to repair it. They gave me a $620 buyout, but for some reason they returned the broken player to me as well. Might as well try to have it repaired, because it still looks brand new. If it can't be fixed, I'll just toss it...
