Can anyone just open up a shop these days?

Ok so today I went to a local sound shop looking for a 2000w amp. I was chatting with the owner about amps and I swear he is either a big retard or he is doing whatever he can to sell me crap. I was telling him Im getting 2 Fi BLs, told him they were 1000wrms and he was saying that 2000w amp is way too powerfull. He was trying to sell me this Memphis PR1100 and I was like "wtf thats weak." He goes "nah man its perfect. 1100w will be going to each speaker. Thats how monoblocks work." I kept telling him pretty much he is an idiot and the power is divided and he keeps trying to tell me that the peak power of the amp (1100) will go to each of the subs.

He then tried to tell me that earlier this morning they installed 2 L7's being pushed w/ a Memphis PR1100 and it was perfect. Then the installer came out and 'confirmed' it. I couldnt take it anymore. I was just like "bye i may come back later."

Thats not all. I then asked him the prices of 0/1 gauge wiring kits. I told him I had a 4 gauge kit sitting in my room from my last setup and he said that would be perfect.

Either this owner is a ****ing moron or he is doing whatever he can to sell me that amp. Can anyone with a pulse just open an audio joint and become an authorized dealer of companies nowadays?

Although he is obviously a complete idiot, he was right on one thing. Assuming that he was talking about the PR amp, the 4 gauge should be enough wire. Now, if he was talking about the 2kw amp you came in looking for, then he's pretty close to being a vegetable.

LOL you don't have to have money to open up a shop. You have to be in debt to open up a shop or do it right anway. There are too many idiots that try to open one and know absolutely nothing. It is a waste of time to even think about opening one because everyone buys off of the internet now. It won't be long before all of them are few and far between. The ones around here rarely do much business and the ones that do have alot of business sell wheels and that is all that really makes them money anymore.

id consider buying at least some of my gear from a shop if i could find one that wasn't full of jerkoffs who know less than i do. no offense to the members who work at shops and DO know what they're doing, just saying i have yet to run across such a shop.

My point exactly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif You've got to think about it this way. Most shops pay commission on installation and don't pay an hourly wage. So right there, if there isn't much business, no one is going to stick around not making any money. Second, I'm sure the "help" gets paid minimum wage and who wants to work for that? So you get what you have working at alot of these shops. People that have absolutely no skills and know very little about the industry. I wouldn't go to a shop and buy anything. I've gotten spoiled on dealer cost //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

by the way, if you're interested, i'm selling my pair of bl 15's, dual 2 ohm coils. less than 10 hours play time on them, send me a pm if you want more info or pictures.

i love my local shop. the dude sells DD, US AMPS, RE AUDIO, etc.... always open to new companies especially quality ones to add to his store. and best part about it. He fricken makes up pricing based on whatever he wants, and if u debate it, he lowers. i pretty happy with the 79$ per dd 1008 new i was quoted for. =]. and 215 per 12" re sx. =].

only creepy thing is that he has some wierd *** t.v playing wierd like indian soap operas and wierd *** music.

but even though he not extremely educated on installs and whatnot. i sure like his pricing. and all kicker wiring =].

Mike-
