can an amp blow stock speakers-newbie

I'm not entirely sure how you would use an amp to power your head unit, but if you hook up a 1000watt two chanel amp to your stock speakers, then yes you run a risk of blowing them. A very high one unless you keep the gain level way way down.

Yes it absolutely would. Stock speakers can barely handle the 15 watts the stock head unit put out. What kind of amp do you have? You want to run RCA's from your HU to your amp not and not hook up your amp to your HU. Some other guys will help ya out with some good websites. I'm still pretty new at this but the first thing you should do is get a good set of component sets and ditch the stock speakers.

Originally posted by GrandAmGT ok..say i get like a 1,000 watt amp...and use that to power my HU and stock speakers till i get subs....can that amp blow my speakers or not? or would it be good to run a 1,000 amp for HU and speakers?

Ima newbie as u can see hehe
HU's have their own power..no need to amp them. 1,000 watts would destroy stock speakers, and most any aftermarket speakers unless they are subwoofers and they are designed for 1kW.
