Can a lawyer make the police give out the names of the confidential informant?

traces of marijuana wont do ****. if anything he could say it was personal use and if they didnt find the marijuana they at most will get a misdemeanor. and did he make sure they had a warrant? and if they found "nothing" then cops obviously had to have an informant.
