Camera won't pick up flex, why?...Vid anyway...

Why is it that some cameras will pick up the body panel movement and flex better than others? Is it certain settings on the camera?

I mean, obviously there's quality differences but I have a decent camera, nothing spectacular, but not bottom of the line either.

I tried to take a vid of my hatch moving today and even though it's clearly visible to the eye, the camera just BARELY picks it up.

Heres the vid anyway, it was supposed to be longer but we had some people stop by that I wasn't expecting,

thats why you can see me looking over in the tint at the end. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

EDIT: second video is down the page.

Well, theres a pretty decent amount of movement, enough that I figured the camera would've picked it up anyway.

I see what you're saying though.

My dad has a pretty nice Fujifilm that I think I'll try tomorrow, and I'll see what that does.

body flex is very fast. For instance if you are playing a 50 hz tone, body flex could be as fast as bouncing 50 times a second. Most cameras cant pick up that speed because the FPS is too slow. A cinema quality camera would be best. Usually if you have bigger flex you can pick it up better because the sheet metal travels longer and slightly slower.

actualy the lower FPS works best for me. I have a few SLR cameras and i have an HD sony video camera. the hd camera shows almost no flex unless i flow it down to almost half speed. but my cheaper cannon rebel xt will pick up tons of flex at a low FPS. i think this is due to the fact that if your camera is catching the entire movment of the flex. Due to a high FPS vibration it is much less noticable since the motion is very fluid and complete. but if your frame rate is low your catching the start midle and end of the flex. this makes the movment much more noticable since the missing frames make the movement seem so drastic.

here are two video.

the first one s using an HD sony video camera scroll in to about 1:42 and watch the back window

the second is a slow FPS shot with a cannon SLR. I know these are different songs but the flex to my eye looked exactly the same.

Still couldn't get it to show any hatch movement but it did pick up the roof flex better.

Nothing impressive, but not too bad considering what I'm running.

And yeah, I know, I have some pretty random shit in my center console. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

The whole interior needs a good clean up.
