sorry guys to keep asking pretty much the same question over n over, but i decided to get 2 10'' L5s in a sealed enclosure, but i need a new amp. i was thinkin either the JBL 600.1 (only 600 watts), or the JBL 1200.1 (a lot of 1200 watts).

whoever owns or used to own an L5, or any sub that's rated at around 400-500rms, what amp do you guys use? watts n brand please. i just wanna get an idea of what amp is good so i can get one.

JBL 600.1 aitn that much power, but i don't wanna blow the subs, but someone told me that 600 watts total would barely push the L5s. but the JBL 1200.1 seems like a lot of power tho, it would be like 600 to each.

i need ur help guys, after this, i m jsut going for a shoppin spree. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif so what amp do u guys recommend (between 800-1000 watts rms probably)

thank y'all for ur help, i can't wait for the L5s //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif , altho i'll be broke after that:(

wat do u guys think of Mobile authority, lanzar, PPI, Hifonics, and/or Profile amps? around 800-1000 watts

its better to get the DVC 2ohm n run them in series for a resistance of 2 ohms than gettin the 4 ohm ones in parallel for a 2 ohm resistance? how so? feed me!!

With (2) 2 ohm dvc you will get either a 2 ohm load or a 1/2 ohm load , With (2) 4 ohm DVC you can get a 4 ohm load or a 1 ohm load , If you get the JBL you want a 2 ohm load , SO you need (2) 2 ohmm DVC Subs ,

By the way I have a new JBL 1200.1 4-Sale !

hey Spddracer, how much r u sellin ur 1200.1 for? how good can u hook me up? hehhe;)

aite, so if i get 2 2ohms, i would have to put them in series? hmmm, if u put 2 4ohms in parallel u get 2 ohms. but 2 2ohms in parallel gets u 1 ohm, while in series gets u 4 ohms, or correct me if i m wrong plz

Originally posted by Jmac L5s only come in DVC (Dual voice coil) which means they have two voice coils. The 4 ohm DVCs have two 4 ohm coils. So the two subs have four 4 ohm voice coils. Using the equation :

Parallel Resistance = (Resistance of the coils) divided by (Number of coils)

we get a final resistance of 1 ohm.

R = (4 ohm voice coil)/(4 voice coils).

R = 1 ohm

So when we do two 2 ohm DVC subs, we actually have four 2 ohm voice coils.

R = (2 ohm voice coil)/(4 voice coils)

R = 0.5 ohms

For series, we use the equation

Series Resistance = (Resistance of the drivers) multiplied by (Number of drivers)

So, for the 4 ohm DVCs, we wire each sub individually to make a 2 ohm load for each driver, then wire them in series.

R = (2 ohm drivers)x(2 drivers)

R = 2 x 2

R = 4 ohms

For 2 ohm DVCs, we wire each sub individually to make a 1 ohm load for each driver, then wire them in series.

R = (1 ohm drivers)x(2 drivers)

R = 1 x 2

R = 2 ohms

Man you sepnt some time typing that one !!

hey jmac, thanks a lot for that useful reply.

one question tho, if i do them individually, i would prob put the coils in one sub in parallel for a 1 ohm resistance, n then put them in series with the other sub, for a total of 2 ohms. but then, how do i connect it to the amp?

correct me if i m wrong, but i prob have to bridge the amp, and connect it to one of the subs. however, i saw the box i m gonna get, and each subs are separated by a middle panel. so i don't know how i would connect both subs together.

yeah, damm, this hobby is damm expensive! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Go here and select wiring wizard under rf tech , This should explain it

i dont' have them yet, very soon tho. trying to get the whole idea together first. they'll be 2 ohms DVC each sub. tahnsk

parallel (for 2ohm subs.....5ohm mono load; 4ohm subs 1ohm mono load)

series (2ohm subs 2ohm mono load; 4 ohm subs 4ohm mono load)
