I had a friend with that kenwood amp and its not really 1 ohm stable. When swapped for a 500/1 the 500/1 killed it but couldve been from voltage drop? The internals are tiny. I repaired a blown trace on it after he overheated it.

 
My first amp was a kenwood 1700 watt. I learned on it and abused it. Still abusing it now and again. It's covered in wire and screw driver arcing scars. Full blast for tones till it protected over and over. And it can get a sub wangin'.

I think amps are like cars. There are good ones and bad ones in the same make and model.
