CABLES: all the bells & whistles people talk about? :-(

i wanna ask people who has really heard the difference between crappy cables and the "good" ones (read overpriced)...

i heard on a blind test the best audiophiles weren't able to distinguish which cable was which.... is this like a psychologial stuff like adding sport air filter to the car where people think their engines are running wilder because of how it sounds?

if they make a difference what does count more? RCA or the parallel cables?

and what makes a cable good??

thanks anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I can't tell the difference in sound but I can tell a crappy made one that doesn't last. in a pinch one time I bought some from radio shack. You had to put pressure to the terminal to keep sound coming through. I took them back and got a second pair( was in the parking lot when I installed them) same problem.

differences are minimal..............But they are there and they are noticable. Here's the analogy I'll use. You typically won't hear a difference if you go from a less expensive cable up to a better cable. It's hard to hear what's gained. But, if you go the other way, take the good cables away. You'll miss detail, depth and maybe a little bass.

I've got a ton of Monster Cable XLN401 2 channel 5 meter cables for sale. They retail for $80, I'll ship em' for sixty if anyone's interested. Yes, I know Monster Cable is the anti christ. But they make good stuff.

My recommendation: Buy the best cable you can afford.

AHAHAHAHA
Talk up the good cable, then plug the for sale bit in there.

Classic

I don't care if he buys the stuff............... I didn't even think about that way..... haha sorry. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I did say Monster is the anti christ.

P.S. cable does make a difference

thanks for the link but i wanna hear what people here has to say too
i used to work at Circuit City, and the guys and i there did a test:

-Two identical TVs and Surround sound systems (yes we had a lot of extra time that day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif )

-One was hooked up with the whole nine yards, the best of every kind of monster cable we had (RCAs, Component Video, DVI, Fiber Optic, you name it) plus it also had the $500 moster power center surge/cleaner.

-The second used RCAs for component video (yes it works just fine) and every single crap cable that was taken out of display boxes. basicly it was a generic radio shack stuff.

Side by side test with the same dvd in the same players (Harman Kardon DVD22 if i remember correctly) and they looked idential. We even got other employees and asked which one looked better, most just look at us like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif .

So to answer your question, if there is going to be a difference between cables you are only going to notice it on computers (measurements and stuff) and super duper high end stuff like you will find in studios.

Care to qualify that a bit? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Because there are certainly people here that have equipment that could be considered "super duper high end" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

In my experience...what seperates a good cable from a bad one is the quality of construction, not the sonic differences. A more expensive cable, to a point, will have better connectors, more shielding, and be more durable. Again, to a point.

Nothing justifies Kimber Kable or Nordost selling interconnects for several hundred a meter, other than marketing and the audiophools that buy them.

I actually know Ray Kimber. Met him a couple times when I lived in Utah. That's where it's based. Anyway, super smart dude. Kimber Kable's good stuff.
