A lot of Toyota owners have convinced themselves of that. But, its simply not true, and you have been duped by their marketing plan. Putting an assembly plant in Alabama does not make it being American made. Its being made elsewhere, with a few Americans overseeing the final step of assembling them, mostly by machine/robot.I drive a Toyota which is more American than most American car companies!
Only reason they did that at all is because you fit more of them in a crate and save money by paying us stupid americans to put them together, all while giving us a sense that toyota is more affiliated with this country. I guess the general toyota construction is similar to that of a pizza box with everything basically popping or gluing together, and everyone knows how to put together a pizza box.A lot of Toyota owners have convinced themselves of that. Again, just an assembly plant, which is a small fraction of the over all cost/labor to actually produce a car. I agree its sad American manufacturers assemble a lot of models in Canada, but at least the profits come back to this country. The profits from those toyotas and nissans goes back to japan.Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Hyundai ALL have factories here. Meanwhile, if you've checked a new dumbestic window sticker, you will see "assembled in canada from parts made in mexico" on most all of them. Hell, I still have the window sticker from my 2010 ram and 2010 civic si if you'd like proof. But way to not know anything about economics.
The initial reason overseas auto makers started putting assembly plants in the U.S. is because the import tariffs on a pile of parts is considerably less than an assembled car. The marketing dupe 'made in america' was merely a pleasant side-benefit.Only reason they did that at all is because you fit more of them in a crate and save money by paying us stupid americans to put them together, all while giving us a sense that toyota is more affiliated with this country.
