Bye Bye Yankees!!

i wish i had 200 million to play with and a team to fill out. i say brian cashman gets fired. paying 15 million to kevin brown is stupid. letting andy pettite get away is stupid. not picking up david ortiz and letting him go to boston especially considering is a left handed power hitter in yankee stadium. next signing sheffield instead of guerero. trading for aaron boone instead of aramis ramirez. then they wouldn't need to trade for A-rod. letting jon lieber get away and signing jaret wright is stupid. paying 16 million a season to a 41 year old left handed power pitcher who can not handle to pressure in new york is stupid. spending a shit ton of money on carl pavano is stupid when they could've traded for tim hudson or mark mulder. the yankees get the dumbass of the year award

They had no reason to get Ortiz. They had Giambi, who, at the time, was a MUCH superior player, all around. Ortiz had tons of holes in his swing in Minnesota...and was quite injury prone. He really was a risk that Boston got lucky on IMO.

Kevin Brown was a horrible move...along with Jared Wright, who has gotten hurt and missed significant time in just about every season of his career. Pavano was iffy, but he was also coming off of a career year, and he's not even 30 yet IIRC. Johnson was showing no signs of aging....why not go after him?

i can see them passing on ortiz. i personally would've passed on johnson due to his age alone. the yankees also gotta start thinking about the future. mulder or hudson would've been better choice imo. when you are over 40 you are gonna break down at some point and i think johnson was too big of a risk. they also could've signed vlad if they wanted to, but chose sheffield instead. i remember the days when the yankees used to win with tino martinez, and bernie williams, and paul o'neil, and orlando hernandez, and david cone etc. not these big ego free agents
