BXi2008D the same or less power than Infinity Rf 611a?

I had an Infinity Reference 611a amp running at 1x~750W RMS on a 2-Ohm load to my two, 12" subs, off 4 gauge wire.

Now, I replaced that amp with a Hifonics BXi2009D with 1/0 gauge wire and a trunk battery for the same subs and it the volume is lower and SPL is less than with teh Infinity!

The Hifonics is rated at 1x1200W RMS on a 2-Ohm load. Even if that is 20% overrated, it should still put out over 900W RMS.

The Hifonic's input level is set at 2 Volts. The Phase is set to 0. The Bass EQ is set to 7dB. The subsonic filter is set to 15 Hz (the minimum). The low pass frequency is set to 250 Hz (the maximum).

My head unit's preamp voltage is 2 Volts. Audio settings on the head unit are set at 0dB.

What am I doing wrong?

are you setting the gain by eye? cause i had an amp once that labeled part of the gain as two volts... but i had to bring ti down to like .5 volts (forget exact number) to get the output i was looking for

and even so, there wouldnt be much difference between 750 and 900 watts.. you need to double power to really hear a difference

Well... I *could* run the speakers down to 1 Ohm (manufacturer says it can handle 1 Ohm) and the manual says it could do 1600W RMS, so I'm guessing 1300W is what it would actually do on the conservative side.

Any considerations before I do that?

take the speakers to 1 ohm low pass to all thw way down and set all by ear thats always worked for me..
Good point.

I am still a little scared to do it, since I'm working with a stock alternator on a Nissan Sentra (despite the fact I have a trunk battery). I think the alt does about 90 Amps output, IIRC.

well it will be ok as long as you set things conservatively you will not notice a difference in a few hundred watts and the infinity was probably a cleaner signal anyways..

its really in the build quality i have read that the older infinitys produced a very efficient and clean signal but i have not personally tried them and $400 ouch should have snatched up one of the SAZ-1500D's in the classifieds you would have been very pleased..

$235 for the amp

$100 for 1/0 gauge wiring

$120 for the battery

$60 for the circuit breakers

I guess that equals $500+, huh?

Way I figure it, I got the electrical wiring in now, so when I do get a decent amp, it will really sound nice!

What metric do I use to judge how clean the signal an amp puts out?

for the most part yes you are very nicely setup and ready for a sundown amp now as far as the metric goes amps that are in high quality you wont notice much of a difference but from a budget amp to a very nice built amp the quality sound difference will be immediate and give you the tingles..

well take the hifonics staright drop in test the saz 1500D would produce a louder deeper more crisp punch its not necessarily a spec its more a combination efficiency what the amp is rated at ie 14.4 13.8 12v and also over all customer support makes a big difference..its just hard to explain you just need a good ear that also helps.
