Buying New Amp, General Question

Hello

I own 12in Magnum sub (Here is the website http://www.magnum-audio.com ) and the amp it came with SUCKED so I want to buy a new one. The setup on my subs are kind of weird. Both of the subs are wired together. The box is sealed so in order to wire each sub separate I would need to break open the box.

The new amp I want to buy is a MTX Thunder 3001 ( http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/TC3001.cfm )

On the amp that came with my magnum subs there were only single pos and neg. [__[batt]_[remote]_[gnd]__[+][-]__]

On this new monoblock amp there are 2 pos and 2 neg.

[__[batt]_[remote]_[gnd]__[+][-]_[+][-]__]

(I hope that made sense lol)

If my subs are wired together to make One pos and neg, how should I hook them up to my new amp? Do I only use 1 set of the pos and negs on either the left or right set or do I use both and put one in the left set pos and one in the other right set neg, or do I have to break open my sub boxs and rewire it? I really do not want to break apart the box to wire each sub separate but I also do not want to risk breaking anything.

Thanks for the help.

I don't own the amp yet so I personally can't see it and see what it says on it. I wanted to just make sure my 2 subs wired as 1 will work on this amp and how to wire them correctly. Then ill buy it. Thanks by the way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

are the subs 2 or 4ohm?
To be honest, Im not really sure. (how can I figure this out?)

Circuit City's website says 4.

Specs from Circut City's site

RMS power handling (watts) = 500

Peak power handling (watts) = 1000

Impedance per voice coil (ohms) = 4

Peak power range (watts) = 800 and up

Woofer cone material = Polymer Coated Paper

Woofer surround material = Polyether foam

Subs size = 12in

Basket material = Stamped steel

Subwoofer type = Dual loaded enclosure

I wish magnum's website had better info specs on these things >.

Hey guys.

I finally got my amp and while getting it I bought new subs.

I need some help with setting my gain on the amp. I seen the many different tutorials but I am still not quite certain what voltage I am looking for. I don't want to screw anything up.

The amp I am using is this one.

http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/xthunder600XD.cfm

Its a MonoBlock amp 1200 watts and 600RMS

The new Subs I got are Kicker Comp Subs. Here is a link.

http://www.kicker.com/06/kicker_home.html

(Link is to a Flash Website, to view the speakers on the left click car audio, then click SUB BOX's then the ones all the way on the right. The black comps, click them. Now click Specs and its the DC12 model)

The subs are 2 Ohms subs.

They are wired together as 1 pos and 1 neg.

The amp I am using has 1 pos and 1 neg also.

Does this mean my subs are bridged to 1 omhs?

When setting the gain using a 50hz track what AC level am I looking for on the AC Voltometer?

If I am correct with the formula, it should be 34.64v. Is this the # I am looking for on the AC meter when raising the gain?

I found a chart and it says for 1200 wats 1 ohms is 34.64 and 1200 wats 2 ohms is 48.99 but I am not sure which to go by since my subs say 2 ohms but they are wired together as 1 neg and 1 pos and will be connected to the amp the same way because the amp only has 1 neg and 1 pos.

Thank you very much.
