Been outta the loop for awhile and am craving a system again (hard to get rid of that bug)

Question is I was looking for recomindations on whether or not to buy refurbished and save the money or not?

Looking at either Kenwood or Pioneer.

Suggestions?

I would say it'd depend to me if it was Factory Refurbished or not.

You see people that buy new amps/products and then immediately have problems with them.

You can easily test the components on the board to find out if they are good or bad or have gotten weaker. Well you may not, but an electronics engineer can. Buy what you can afford and what appeals to you.

I have a refurbished 21" monitor I bought 2-3 years ago. It's a Sony Trinitron P1100 that only cost me $125 shipped. I'm **** happy with it.

So it just depends on if your willing to take a risk.

Do you only buy brand new cars, because you're afraid of what might happen to used car when you get it?

Refurbished is somewhat hit or miss. Different companies or manufacturers do different quality of refurbishing. There are different grades as well. Some look brand new, wouldn't be able to tell it was refurbished without that sticker. Others have cosmetic imperfections. I would say problems with refurbished units are generally a little higher than new products. Warranty is usually less, like 90 days or so, vs. 1 year. If you can get a big discount vs. a new unit, it may be worth trying.

Yeah they are a hit and miss. Like I said, you need to be willing to take a risk.

I buy used/refurbished all the time and personally have never had problems, but I know of others that have.

I'm don't have money to throw around either. I have a Wife and 3 kids and we can get by, but if I want something I'm going to get the best deal at cheapest price, whether it's new or refurbished. If you have the money, just buy new. If you're strapped for cash, take your chances.

It's really up to you.

I keep lickin' my chops when I see the refurb DRZ9255's out there for under $700.

They are tempting.

Thought I saw a clarion 955 refurb somewhere also.. would be equally tempting if the price were better.

Also I see the refurb 3sixty.2's which might be the most tempting.. I think sometimes in some cases, the failure was an ESTO fuse that popped causing the return..

ESTO = Equipment Superior To Operator //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

So you take your chances I guess to save a buck.. sometimes you win, sometimes you dont and some get rained out.
