Isn't Aluminum also an option for buss bars? I'm not sure as I've never used them, but I think I've seen quite a few people use Alum for buss bars. If so, local hardware / supply stores usually carry bars of Alum.

1/2 if PLENTY thick, I would go thinner even, you can even get peices of flat steel at lowes
