well legally i have a computer repair business in michigan. now im registered with the state, but not the city its in. its located in southfield, mi, by the way. anyone around there know if its required to register with the city? i didnt see anything about it being required on their website?

couldnt imagine why you would need to register with the city if you dont have a store front. Now, your job is to show a loss EVERY YEAR so you dont get taxed to oblivion.

Keep receipts for gas, any computer related supplies, pens, office supplies, chairs (for your office) List goes on and on!

You should get a DBA (Probably $20-$50 bucks) if you are small and do not own anything, if you own a house or anything of value you can be sued for go for a LLC which is probably between $250 and $1000.
