burning glue smell

whenever i bump my subs real loud, after a while i start to smell something burning coming from the subs, i never turned them up that high until last week, ius this normal? i heard it can be burning off excess glue or something but if it was excess glue, how long should it be till i stop smelling it?

Set your gain properly.

burning smell can be the voice coils burning. It's shortening the life span of your L7's. As someone above said, properly set your gains, you don't need bass boost.

Meaning.. They set it at a random place. If they knew what they were doing, they would not have turned the bass boost up at all. Turn the bass boost all the way down, get yourself a DMM, and handle your business mother fucker.

well the audio shop didn't set em right... you shouldn't use the bass boost for volume control. those subs need more power than 1/4

Dont touch that gain until you get a DMM.

walmart sells a kit from scosche or whatever that has a dmm in it... it's only 20 bucks and it is accurate...

I suggest turning the bass boost off (turn it all the way down).

for all you know it COULD be glue as my sony home sub that i've had since before i joined here STILL smells when u play jurassic park on it. ive ran that thing hard as hell and if it was the VC, it shouldn't have lasted nearly two years.

I`ve got my gains set right and still often i get that glue smell and it`s been like 6 or so month since i first installed the sub but it does seem to get weaker and weaker..it`s a X type strapped to a xexon 1200.1 in a sealed chamber.I dunno but as said check the gains n go from there.
