Used to do it at tailgate parties in college. Never had a problem. The car will keep its engine temp in check. If it doesn't you would have a problem every time you got stuck in traffic. Even stuck in traffic in Vegas in 115 deg heat with the AC on full tilt and the system going, the engine fan on my car doesn't kick on and the temp stays right in the middle of the green range.

Running a big system off the batteries is more likely to cause a problem. Drain the batteries just a bit an it becomes pretty easy to toast an amp through overcurrent.
