Bumpin in the cold

Ummmm....coils dont burn when they are cold. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
jesus there is some BS being spewed in this thread.
it's not BS. cold weather freezes subs and if you don't shut them down in time, your voice coils will fry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I geuss if you dip them in liquid nitrogen.

Heat from the coil will loosen up the spider before the coil burns. And worse case the surroudn will tear...Hell, it is one weak motor if you can apply enough power to burn the coil but not brake a frozen solid spider...or get the spider to move.

wow i can't believe you people are taking me seriously, or you are just playing along //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/hilarious.gif.02a037aad04aa96f19982b298a3d70a8.gif

You are still bad at physics.

it's hard to bump a frozen sub. if you get any bumpage out of it at all, it'll just be some semi-loud thumps, kinda like a rhino farting

Yah, its a dull thud, just like a rhino farting //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I have had one problem when I lived in NY. Was -30 and I had an Eclipse 8812 (aluminum cone) and didn't even think about what I was doing. Just got in the car and cranked it (1000 RMS). The glue holding the voice coil to the cone instantly cracked and broke apart. The cone came completely seperated from the coil and the sub was no more.

ok.. time for a test...

I gotta RF P1 12" doing nothing... I'll test it @ room temp freeair, and then put it in the freezer for a day, pull it straight out and retest..

that sound like something you all would be interested in?
