BTL18 tire well enclosure planing

i was planing on sealing it thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I like the mag but I don't know how people will react to what im doing. Though I did make the mistake of telling my better half I could buy the Q for $259 over a $500 sub . (good thing I can still get my way though hehe)

has anyone else but me noticed what he really wants to do here? Other than the BTL in the wheel well... thats another story... but he wants to take a MDF board.... and seal off the entire cone of the woofer. Then vent it with air holes, in a shape of the letters "FI."

Does'nt anyone else seen this as a major NO NO? Not only can it NOT be good for the woofer, it must sound like total ***.

Uhm.. No one told me it wasn't good to do.. I was just trying to flush mount it so I could use the trunk :\

The subs I've had before were two hcca's in a normal box in the back of an 85 bronco. this is a dif car and setup.

whats wrong with a flush mount if you invert the top peace so the woofer doesn't get hurt?

the top would have a bigger round hole that doesn't go all the way through but allows enough room for the woofer to move etc

Correct. I see that as your plan, and im not putting you down in ANY way.

But i dont see how completely encasing the cone of the sub behind a sheet of MDF is good, or would even sound good.

And if im totally off, i definitley apoligize, but im almost positive that the BTL is the total wrong woofer for you man. Seriously.

yeah i know it is now too. I'm just trying to find the correct one. I just got a $600 check and i can spend it!

When the subwoofer is given power, the cone moves. Thus moving air. If the air has no where to go.... id assume it would do damage to the woofer.

id honestly say... if your going to stick with the tire well.... you cant port it. Too small. Maybe a mag would do... but there cant be any more than 1cf in that tire well after sub displacement. I just dont see it working.

i'll have to measure it and see what I have. it's really big though.. it's about 2 to 3 feet long and maybe 1 foot deep
