Actual tire well pictures and mdf board picture to come very soon!

First off let me tell you what I have.

Mmats CX-65 for front stage.

Image Dynamics CTX6.9 for rear stage

(need amp or amps for these still not sure what i'll get)

Kicker ZX1500.1 Mono amplifier - for my sub.

the sub I'm about to buy is a fi BTL with all the addons.

The car - 2007 Hyundai Accent .

---------------------------------------------------

Here's what I've done so far:

I've made a cutout of the trunk floor that looks just like the carpet version in 3/4 mdf .

My idea:

To use the spair tire well for the fi btl and flush mount the sub so we can still use the trunk.

Problems I foresee:

BTL not having the clearance and having to raise the trunk floor which results in less cargo room.

Basically the mfd is flat like the trunk floor without the tire well and the sub will drop in the middle of the board obviously..

I see my mdf board and then maybe another one on top it to complete the flush mount but have the other one backwards ie upside down and have it a little bigger ring than 18" and more depth. that way the surround of the speaker doesn't get hurt but is totally covered. not sure if little air holes would be needed to the top of the board or not.

PICTURE OF My design of the 2nd top board and underlying board made out of MDF. (might FG mold)

I'm wondering since I might have clearance issues if I'll need to some how raise the wood panel. What I'd love to do would be to fiberglass this maken a mold of the wood and have it set right. I don't know if I can downfire with a setup like this but I think it might help.

So what do you guys think?

I just bought Damplifier Pro Bulk Pack - 36.50 sq feet.. I'm also buying the Overkill Pro and the Luxury Liner. for my trunk / well..

I want a to have good barriers!!!

Like I said before it'd be great to turn the above picute upside down and down fire the sub into the well and still have it covered at the top. I DOUBT I can do this so the plan is to do whats in the picture..

I don't know what I should do to the tirewell besides installing sound deadener

I think if I can seal the baffle and get the correct airspace I can have one hell of a box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks bumpin buick I'll most likely take you up on that.

well...

you might be able to get it to work like that, and I dont know how big the back actually is.. you may get some flx from the baffle, especially since there isnt an enclosure to attack it to, in the traditional sense of the work anyways

but Im sure itd sound decent, but there are better drivers for this type of configuration

what about getting an ib suitable driver and venting the tire well?

that may be a good option for ya

everyone i've talked to said btl and I even had a thread for which sub to get and most voted (50 people) to get the BTL. I've made up my mind with the sub. As for attaching it most likely will haver to fiberglass to the trunk metal. I might even end up making an FG mold to do so.

IF I FG the whole baffle I don't think I'll get any or much flex after that if it comes to that.

we will see. I'll be getting pictures in a day or two up so everyone can see the trunk and I'll also take as many measurements as I possibly can.

thats cool man, use whatever driver you want, it is your car, I wasnt trying to talk you out of it or anything

I would fiberglass the well itself, and attatch it to the baffle, especially if you already plan on doing some fg work anyways

also, i looked at the thread as well, you never said what kind of enclosure you were planning on, that does make a difference on driver decisions

you may want to do another, but being more specific

or are you planning on porting this?

Im just saying I wouldnt do a btl sealed is all

i might port it. I've thought about runing a port to the very rear of the car / trunk area. I think i'd be cool to make sorta a tunnel that is at the very rear. The car even has sorta a spot for that.

When I lay the board in the trunk there's a little gap at the rear. I'm sure I could adjust the board or something and make a real port for it.

Why wouldn't you do a btl sealed?

90% of the geniuses on this forum see 18" or "BTL" and quit reading. They vote for it simply because it's an 18" BTL. In all honesty, it's a terrible choice for what you're doing. It's going to be starved for air and not sound that good. It's not meant to be a daily woofer or used in a sealed box. The SSD or Q, if you're set on Fi, would be better for your application and a 10 or 12 would have the right amount of air.

Ditto, Helo.

Honestly, the BTL really prefers to be in a ported enclosures, with a minimum of 5 cu ft. The sub is going to sound terrible in there and it's definitely going to be starved for air.

I second the suggestion of the Fi Q 12". Put it in 1.3 cu ft of space sealed and it'll rock your world. That's what I'll be running off of ~1400 RMS in my Jeep in a few weeks.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

ok it's either the Q for my or the SI Mag... SI mag im sure is a very nice woofer but do I need a 15? On the other hand the two of you said the Q. I'm leaning toward the Q but I think I need a push.

I vote mag:D

And definately make sure you actually seal the tirewell to the baffle/floor (fiberglass the whole well as well and make it air tight. Otherwise, if you just drop the sub in the floor and do nothing else, you will just be running IB. There are IB subs that will do well like that, but the Q and the mag are not designed for that.

And the BTL is definately a terrible choice for what you are trying to do.
