my bro has a 2000 sable with factory mach audio system...

also added a 15" l7 powered by a kenwood 900rms amp.

will be building a wall for it shortly.

he would like to upgrade the factory system. what would you recommend we do? climate controlls are built in and theres a cd changer in the trunk. im unsure where the amp is for the factory system(if there is one).

i suggested something simple like a mtx req for the sub amp... but he's interested in doing door speakers, etc.

i also suggested a roll or 2 of raamat. how ever ive never seen/heard/installed a walled sub before so im not sure what to expect for rattles. currently the l7 is in a smallish (~2cubes) sealed box and it turned that sable into a rattling tin can...

looking at a budget around 400.

i was thinking 2 rolls of raamat and the mtx req and see if the deadening brings the stock system up to a decent level. but i should go listen to it for alittle to see how it sounds...

his listening preferences are rap mostly and he has no ear for music.

Does his sable have the electronic climate control?

Ive heard from the tcca forums that adding a HU in place of the stock radio panel with electronic climate controls is alot of work. You cant just use a metra or scosche dash kit because those only come with manual climate control knobs. So you will have to do something custom if you want to add a new HU.

The mach audio amp is located on the left rear fender inside the trunk. Just pull back the trunk lining, you cant miss it. Also, the mach amp puts out 20w x4 RMS. So you could likely get away with just upgrading the speakers and still have it sound nice.

If you do have EEC. Your easiest option will be to use a line out converter to send a signal to a proper amp. Then connect your amp to your factory wiring. And your golden.

I hope that helps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

thanks alot for the info. yes its the electronic climate controls so no new hu there.

i think we'll go with as much deadening as we can and get some components upfront and maybe cheap coax or nothing in the rear.

any suggestion on speakers.

would you recommend a mtx req kind of thing to clean up the bass any? the one with one set of preamp outputs is only 70 bucks or so...

I dont really have any recommendations tbh. There arent many 6x8 component sets that I know of.

I have some infinity 6x8's in my taurus. Models are listed in my sig if you want to look at those as an option.

Im pretty sure you can fit a 6 1/2 speakers in the 6x8 slots if your willing to drill some holes and maybe make a custom bracket.

Never used one of those things before. So I have no idea how well they work.
