broke my computer

I was installing an external dvd burner to my compaq desktop and when it installed it said "restart computer or disconnect unit" so I unplugged the usb cable from the dvd burner and my computer shut off and will not come back on. I've tried different outlets, surge protectors, etc etc. I think my power supply is fried somehow. How hard is it to replace? Thanks guys!!

power supply is stupid easy to replace. only difficult part is finding a power supply that fits your computer. most desktops that are branded by large manufacters require you to purchase parts from within the company due to size restrictions.

though i don't see how an external dvd burner could short out your pc's power supply.

depends on the company. mine cost me somewhere near 100-150 but it's a 550W and supplies the output plugs for my video card.

though one for you should cost but like 30-50.

cut your loses, get a new computer, and set up the harddrive in the computer you broke as a slave on your new one/one you're on now to get off all the stuff you want off it, then smash the old hard drive with a sledge hammer, making sure you smash the disks inside into a hundred+ pieces.
