Bridging two Orion 1200D's for 1ohm Load.

supposed to be strappable at 2ohms stable. that the way i have mine
Does that mean that your two Orion's are only pushing 1600watts to your sub since the 1200D is 800 @ 2-ohm? Or will the two amps together push more wattage at 2-ohms since they're strapped? The Orion manuel doesn't explain the wattage for the amps if they're strapped, just how to strap them.

Here's the deal.

When you strap an amplifier, each amplifier will "see" half the load (just the same as when you bridge a 2-channel amplifier, each channel will "see" half the load). Due to this, the minimum impedance you could strap a pair of 1ohm stable amplifiers to (in this case, the Orions) is 2ohms since each amplifier would effectively "see" a 1ohm load and output their 1ohm rated power. So, a strapped pair of Orion 1200D's would output a total of 2400w RMS, since each amplifier would effectively "see" a 1ohm load and both would output their 1ohm rated power. And strapping them to a load lower than 2ohms would cause each amplifier to "see" a load that's lower than their rated stability.

So when you strap amplifiers, the lowest impedance you can strap them into is an impedance that is double what each amplifier is stable to on their own. For two 1ohm stable amplifiers, the minimum impedance when strapped is 2ohms. For two 2ohms stable amplifiers, the minimum impedance when strapped is 4ohms. Just the same as a 2-channel amplifier that is only stable down to 2ohms per channel cannot be bridged into a load lower than 4ohms, since each channel will "see" half the load (i.e. 2ohms)

Clear as mud ??
