bridged my amp finally, morels finally sound like morels

i have morels aswell. and i noticed they are sure not the most sensitive speakers in the world. i reallly feel they need plenty of watts. the sensitivity on them is rated with volts not watts and still is not above 90
i think i follow what ur saying. ill say that with the ~287.5 W i am sending each side passively, they get distorted exponentially. of 62 volume settings, and with my current gain setting and EQ, 47 souinds great, 48 is so so, 49 is very distorted. i wouldnt want to risk blowing them.

well im happy with my speakers for now, just tweekin to get the most out of them. polyfill kind of looks like cotton, and if used in sealed application the woofer can "see" a bigger enclosure. so you had dynamat in you're doors and then you switched them to fiberglass pods, correct?

got any pics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
nope, i had dynamat and then after the pods were installed, i had the entire doors dynamated. they cut me a deal with the speakers, install, etc., the extra dynamat for the entire door and the labor was nothing compared to the overall price and to be honest, the additional dynamat prevented the door handle from making noise (both the handle inside the car when driving, and the handle outside the car when i am getting in the car but the system is already banging)

speakers that sound that good are easy to blow. i was tryin to be easy on mine. because headunit was 6.5 volts and amp only accepted 4v. so i always had it low tryin not to send a clip signal. but i still ended up blowin a set of tweets. i know it was from clipping. the speakers just sounded too **** good to notice any type of distorting.

thats interesting, i guess you wouldnt hear otherwise noticeable distortion bc of the quality of the driver.

i cross my sub over at 80 Hz, and the HPF is set on the HU at 80 Hz as well. however, the slope is only -12dB/octave. i am very careful about boosting 80 Hz (that being the bottom end of the spectrum for my woofer) bc it makes the kind of popping sound that forces you to cringe.

other than that, i would say that with an almost three-fold increase in wattage to the morels when wired passively, the improvement in SQ is immeasurably large. even my boy trevor, who never says a nice thing about anyone else's system, was blown away by the diff when we took a blunt cruise this afternoon (dont worry, it was after law school was done for the day, lol).

also surprises me that u blew the tweets w/o damage to the woofer? did u have the highs boosted on the EQ or anything?

r u using a true rms dmm or a regular dmm.
if you are using a regular DMM they you need to set your gains using a 60hz tone as opposed to the 100hz tone you stated above, if you are using RMS DMM then your fine.

the reason you use a 60hz tone with a DMM is that the dmm is set to test house voltage which operates at 60hz, a RMS DMM will sense the freq and give you a correct read out

but since you mentioned you wanted to get an o-scope im sure you have a RMS DMM and know not to mess with the cheap stuff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

"regular" DMM's ARE rms.

Take any ol' DMM and measure wall voltage - you'll get 120, not 170.
