breaking in

this used to be a HUGE debate on this forum. Most people say it's not required but others think you need to do it. Just to be safe, if you want to do it, just play the sub free air for a few hours with minimal volume. Or you could have it in your enclosure and playing softly, you just don't want to BOOM LIKE SO right away.

Personally if I was going to do it, I would just run it free air for a few hours with some power and come back later.

running free air just means playing the sub without any kind of enclosure.

go to realmofexcursion.com and look under videos, go to the JBL or RE tab and I know for a fact they have videos of subs playing free air.

I was talking to some slaes people, and one said I could have f'd up my speakers by not "breaking them in" then I went and talked to another sales person who had never heard that you "NEED" to break them in.

Or just play the sub like normal. Breaking it in is only going to burn off excess glue and soften the suspension. Guess what harm will happen if you run full power before the break in period is over? The sub will play like normal but it's excursion will be slightly reduced. Oh my God, I guess that can blow the sub???? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

like I said at the beginning of this thread, some swear by it while others think it's not required. Just give it a try, what could it possibly hurt other then you lose a few hours play time with your subs? Just run it free air with a little bit of power(don't you dare throw a lot of power at it like that video showed) for a few hours, come back, put it in your enclosure and run it on medium volume for a while and then eventually just start playing it at your normal listening levels. People say it generally takes a week or so to be fully broken in so have fun //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Look.......just take your sub, put it in your trunk or on the ground or on a work bench or something, hook it up to your amp and play with the sub moving a little bit but not to where it is going XMAX by any means. It's not that hard bro, I think you are making this harder then it should be.

i wasn't making anything harder then it should be. i'm not going to turn my car on and let it play music with the sub just laying in the back of the trunk. i'll just do it the way jmanpc said to.
