breaking in

Got my IDMAX in my box and hooked up to my phoenix gold amp (R15). I'm using my best judgment to break it in. The sensitivity has a range from 4 to .2 and I have it a little less than in the middle, I've been using it since fri. I don't know much about amps, is this a good way to break my idmax in while I gradually increase the sensitivity? (I'm assuming .2 is the full 1000 watts)

I've personally never "broken in" any my new sub and I haven't had any issues. I don't, however, slam the thing right out of the box.....kinda let it "warm up" for few hours first, but's that's about it. This is only my experience though.

This is one of the never-ending car audio arguments (whether or not subwoofer break-in is necessary or not) Nice sub, btw. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

Please read the stickied thread regarding setting the input sensitivity setting properly. That thread can be found here. That setting is not a volume or output wattage adjustment so please do not treat it as such. That behavior will more often than not lead to damaged equipment and unhappy consumers.

braking in is pointless, i would give em 5-10 min at moderate levels then giver, also i think ID test there subs free air at the factory. theres a vid on ROE from the ID factory. also the gain thats 4-.2 volt pre outs. if u have 4 volt pre outs or RCA on your deckset em at 4 if u have 2 volt pre outs on your deck set it a little less then half. u will get the full 1000watts if u set it for your pre out level

Ive yet to see anyone prove break-in is necessary. But, Ive also heard a sub get louder/sound better over the first few weeks of its life due to the suspension loosening up etc (break-in). So, it does happen, but its generally accepted as not necessary.

No manufacturer I know of actually runs their sub through any sort of break-in period before shipping them out.

I know for a fact TC sounds "break in" there subs before shipping out. I play at low volume for about an half an hr half volume for about an hr then let it blast never had any problems.

Playing a sub at a low level for 5 minutes is considered breaking in a sub just because you do not do it for a week does not mean it is not still considered a break in period. I would do this just to be safe especially if you have not set your gains with a dmm and it is 12 degrees out.

How many times a week are we going to see a "Breaking In?" thread?

That would be ID running an IDMAX at the factory. Does that prove they 'break in' every sub they ship? Nope.

Many manufacturers state they test each product, but Ive still yet to see any of them maintain they run a break-in period for their speakers before shipping them. Probably some do, me not hearing about them certainly doesn't preclude they do not exist. But its definitely not the norm, if anyone actually does.
