I jus bout a XXX 15" and havent broken it in yet cuz i thought i didnt have ne way to but i jus found an old stero that has an impedance of 3.2 ohms and i was wondering if i could wire the sub to 4 nd jus plug it on in...it doesnt have a sub out so would it be ok to jus plug it into the left or rite speaker port....nd its pretty old so it prolly dont have that many watss is that bad?

I'm getting a tempest and I'd like to know how imortant break-in really is. Can I just play it quiet in my car for a while? Any certain kind of music to break it in? Or should I have it outside my box for a little bit and let it play off my amp at low volumes while it just sits in my trunk?

Just don't blast the volume for a week and you'll be fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you really want to "break it in", hook it up free air, play a nice tone, and turn it up till the sub is really moving. Then leave it like that for a day.

Am I stupid, or would that kill my car battery? I could just hook my battery on the charger while playing. So burn a test tone onto a cd and then play it on repeat in my car with the sub sitting by itself in the trunk? And leave the trunk open for airflow? Theft isn't a problem as the car would be in my closed garage.

And would the sub jump or move around if it's just sitting there with a test tone going through it?

Breaking in your sub is pretty important, they reccommend 24 hours of playing on low volumes before you can crank it. Personally, I played them on medium volumes for maybe 8 hours (i have 2 tempest) and now I can crank them as loud as I want without worrying. You should be fine as long as you dont kill them right off the bat!

i musta not asked the question rite...

i understand that u need to break it in...i understand how to do it

but i was wondering if it would work to just simply put it on an old stero that has a 3.2 ohm impedance...id wire the sub to 4 ohms and jus plug it in either the L or R speaker port

Is it the speaker outputs you are asking about, or the RCA outputs?? Cause your original post makes it sound like you are talking about the RCA outputs, which don't have enough current or voltage to power a speaker.

Also, break in is only really important if you are an SPL competitor who burps their subs at insane levels of excursion. Other than that, just hook it up and bump away.

speaker outputs...doesnt matter now tho cuz its too late....good news tho it worked //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif thanks fer the clarification tho squek

DO NOT play your stereo off the battery with a charger on it.....ever.
OK, thanks for the heads up. Does that F up the charger or the battery or the stereo first? Just curious.

Should I go easy the first few days?

Could be both. A battery charger works by "trickling" current to the battery. It isn't like an alternator, in that it has a VERY small amount of current that it sends, and you could damage the battery, the charger, and/or the stereo by attempting to do that.
