theres no reason to sitck with the same brand besides matching equip.

If there is something cheaper and puts out the same watt/specs, pick it up instead.

Some people are ADAMANT about having brand-matching ish.

But, as for sound quality [or sound pressure level for some of you people ^-^], there's no real impact if you mix and match brands. Most companies do make amps to match their subs (it's only logical), but often times, the amp to match the sub, or sub to match the amp is over-priced. So, people will resort to another woofer or amp that will do the same for a less price.

An EQ is an EQ regardless of the brand-- that is to say, a hypothetical JL EQ will do the same as a hypothetical Alpine EQ [Not sure if either brand makes EQs] if run off the same source. when i mentioned eqs and xovers i was more thinking in the line of how some companies like Arc use din cables and etc to send the signals instead of rcas. where having both the amp and eq/xover coming from the same company would be a good thing.
