This wouldnt be self defense as the kid himself was never attacked.

Like others were saying 3rd party defense would apply. I doubt he'll get charged with much of anything, if he does that is utter bullshit. Props to the kid.

It's always classified as murder. Even when a cop shoots a guy in self defense it's murder. The investigation is only to determine whether or not it was justified. The kid will still have to go to court. If it is legally justified (which it obviously is), he won't be charged. As long as this is what really happened, there shouldn't be a problem.

You're **** straight you didn't have a choice. The mother obviously couldn't subdue or de-escalate the violent situation, so what the hell is a 12 year old gonna do? He did what he had to do. Plain and simple. I am surprised he had wits and confidence to pull it off instead of watching some guy strangle his mother to death. Kudos I say.
