I have a 12cuft net box with about 160 sq in of port area tuned around 32hz...I had for my hdc3 18s. well I sold the 18s and put my ia dr 15s in the box and kinda disappointed. is this box too big for 15s and too much port area? it gets loud but not very musical and subs smell bad after playing about 10 min. so do I need to make the box around 10cuft gross? and less port area?

also im powering the subs with a t2500bdcp @4 ohms with gains set right.

Yea thats a lot of space and port ..those subs probably are all over the place and no control over excursion=stinky fast...get urself like 8.5 net and 16"port per cube and rock on

I would think port area is more of a problem than volume but I don't know what kind of volume those subs need. Large boxes produce good low end extension but you need to be careful of port area when using a large box... because excursion can get out of control pretty easy.

so you think they will be louder and take more power with smaller box?

Stack some pieces of 2x4 inside the box to take up volume and make a temp port reducer. IF you're happy with it then you'll know what size box to build...
