They have a 14-day return policy ... The warranty covers you in case of hardware failure after the return period ...
I would recommend shopping around at local computer shops and posting the proposed systems online to weed out the good from the bad, but you don't have the time to do that, obviously ...

For a decent brand-name computer at a reasonable price with good customer service and support, look at Acer ...
Staples sells those I think we have a Staples.

How long have classes been in session?

I know I missed the first month of my last semester and still pulled off B's basically across the board.

I know online classes are a different animal, but I've done that as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Do these online classes have paper study guides and textbooks? If you keep up with the reading, you should still be ok.

Relax, and find a decent, stable computer.

Hooked it up, and during setup the keyboard did not work, so I turned the computer off because I could not continue with the setup....
And now it won't work! It boots up some then sits there with a black screen that says Windows XP... Please wait.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif I have been having terrible computer problems. I'm taking 4 online classes and if I cannot get a computer working soon I am going to have to drop all 4 of the classes because I registerd late and ma so far behind..., and today was the last day to get a 50% refund... Tomorrow i only get 25% of my tuition refunded if I drop the classes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
lol was the brand Emachines?

sorry you have a PM I went to bed after that post, and I can do about 540 more days of warranty on this machine if you send the back part back to me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I get onsite warranty replacement at work. I may be able to transfer the warranty to you but dont know how onsite will work sense it was a educational onsite.

For botched install attempts, I use Dariks Boot and Nuke. It wipes all data and partitions from a hard drive. It does not low level format and is entirely safe. This sets you up nice for a fresh install.

Double check your keyboard connection when you plug it back in next time, try pressing ESC or F1 to "unlock" it.

If the computer is new and doing this better off getting rid of it as it most likely is a bad piece of hardware causing the problem. I had a laptop out of the box do the same shit and sure enough it had a chip in the HD platter.

Honestly it's a really common problem for a new computer to have something like "new hardware detected press f1 to continue" or "CMOS reloaded press f1 to continue". From the sound of it this is most likely a simple user error and not a catastrophic hardware failure. Turning off the computer during an install is a very bad idea, but can be fixed. Im suprised his computer didnt come with windows loaded already.
