So i bought a yellowtop at costco today for $140. The sticker on it says 07/06. So im guessing its been on the shelf for 2-3 months. What do you recommend i do? Stick it in the car for like an hour b4 i turn on my stereo? Also i know they say "maintinence free" but besides cleaning the terminals what else should i do? Im running about 2000 watts and i know i never really pull that much even at close to full volume, but how long can i run this battery with the engine off b4 it would need to be jump-started? Any tips for owning 1 of these would help...

ohh its a standard 34/78 YT

Voltage 12v

Cold Cranking Amps @ 0F 750

Cranking Amps @ 32F 870

Reserve Capacity 120

Capacity (C/20 Rate) 55

Internal Resistance (ohms) .0028

I have a DP D34. Its awesome,. never had a hint of trouble. Killed it many times, never fails me! Gotta love em. But really, it depends on how much draw your drawing from your battery. If you have alot of draw, well thats less time. Me, I have a 500w amp, neons, hu, dvd, tv...etc and i can run it for at least 1.5 hrs before it gets to about 10v. after about 9v, cant start //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif . The shelf life on those things are great, dont worry, jsut hook it up and go!

FYI - Make sure you do your electrical right....just and FYI

Also, try keeping a multi-meter with you always. That way you can test your battery occasionally. Also, good jsut to keep around.

ive got a yellow top group 31T. I have a us amps md2 and another amp for my speakers. I have been able to play it for 2 hours straight on normal volume and I dropped from 13.1V to 12.0 volts. Great batts

Bolt the new batt in, wire it up, start the car/truck, and jam out. Im sure its not fully charged, but if it has enough juiced to start the engine (and it should), you'll be fine. The alt will charge it up.

Any estimation of how long the battery would last with the engine off would be a pure guess. We have no idea how loud you would be running the stereo in this hypothetical situation, nor do we have a way to know what the draw on the battery would be. Its like asking how long it would take to drain your swimming pool without telling us how big your hose is.

And please, spare us the hose jokes guys... too obvious anyway. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ive never had to clean terminals on my yellow top, they arent like a reg battery, they dont get all nasty and shit

Yes, they do. That 'nasty shit' is oxidization of the contact metals that is catalyed by passing high amounts of current between/through them. This happens in sealed spiral cells just as easily as it does in non-sealed wet cell batteries. If corrosion on your terminals is being caused by the battery's acid, you got some problems to deal with. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you have a problem with over-oxidization of your battery terminals, go out to your local parts store and buy some contact grease (sometimes electrolytic grease, or as my dad calls is.... monkey ***). This is a grease that conducts electricity. You smear it on the mating contacts (batt terminals), it conducts the electricity through it while not allowing oxygen to get to the metal surface, thereby resisting/eliminating oxidization. Works great, just a bit messy to work with.

Sweet! Im in southern Texas, San Antonio to be exact. This battery makes my car purr like a wet *****-(cat). Ive noticed less diming, my windows roll up faster, and my voltage gauge doesnt swing as much; I think my headlight's are brighter too. Great battery so far, we will see how long it lasts.

Two hotties making out, half *****, on top of beer kegs. Does it get much better than that? lol

Answer: Yes, joining in.
