bottoming out!!!!!

I have my SE12 on an Alpine mrp-850 running at 2 ohms, so its getting ~800 rms. Well I was playing this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2rdqR9uQtU&feature=PlayList&p=F9234137CB0EC1F4&playnext=1&index=79

and on the really low note the sub was bottoming out.

What does this mean? Gain too high? Volume too high? Please help, i dont want to destroy the sub

i didnt know the name of the song haha i built the box, its roughly 2 cu ft at 34 hz and what am i supposed to set the subsonic to?

gain is a little over half way up and 0 bass boost

your gain is too high, read the gain setting tutorial. I would set the subsonic at 25 and down

Subsonic should be in the 25-30 hz range.

Sounds like one of two things.

Either you are overpowering the sub

or

you are playing songs that have a note that is below the tuning of your enclosure, causing the sub to bottom out.

Yea but my old sub was tuned to 38 hz and i played tons of low songs and never bottomed out.

not every sub will bottom out below tuning in every enclosure...

So what?

Regardless of what your old sub was doing, your current sub is bottoming out. That means you have a problem somewhere.

The amp has gain/bass eq/LP filter settings

so the lp filter is the subsonic setting right? im a little confused....

low pass (lp) cuts off the highs

subsonic cuts off the lows (that are too low for your sub in that enclosure off that power).
