Boston PRO60 or Pioneer 720PRS on 250wx2

I'll be running 250w x 2 @ 4 ohms for my front stage.

I'm looking for help in picking some passive components that will use this power effectively.

The Boston are 3 ohm but in the real world that doesn't change things much when it comes to power handling anyways.

I'd like these to be very clear and strong. The only set of comps. I have ever heard were some Focal Polyglass 165V2's off of 40w each side and I thought they were great sounding so I guess I have pretty low expectations and I also must like a bright tweeter because I liked the Focal high end a lot.

Please help me out here guys. The PRO60's are going to run me 400 bones and the PRS720's are going to only run me 250, but I'll throw down the money on the PRO's if that's the better choice for my needs.

Thanks.

I picked up the Boston Pros for under $300 shipped BNIB off Ebay. That puts them closer in range to the Premiers. I actually owned the Premiers first then replaced them with the Bostons. The Premiers seemed to have a little warmer sound, but the Bostons were just as clear and got louder. I'd say on 250w, I'd go with the Bostons. You can always adjust gains. The impedance of the speaker doesn't have anything to do with power handling though; it determines what the draw on the amp is going to be. So if your amp puts out 250w at 4 ohms, it is going to put out more than that at 3 ohms. In a perfect world, it should be 1.5x 250w, so somewhere around 375. Too much for the Bostons. But again, it is nice to have the headroom and you can always adjust the gains. Also, if you like a brighter tweeter, the Premiers will not be for you. They have a beautiful sound, but the tweeter is far from bright. The Bostons sound more to me like what you're looking for. Check ebay... they can be had a lot of places for way under $400. Hell, I sold mine on here, mildly used for $200 shipped! So there are deals to be had out there. Good luck.

Mike

I listened to them this morning in a display room at a shop and they sounded pretty good. Much worse than I'm sure they would in a good install. There has been tons of positive feedback about them on here. I'm probably going to go exchange my Alpine Type X Pros for the MLK165s on Monday... I need the midbass!

I installed some Boston Pro's into my buddies front stage a while back, definitely worth the money. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thanks for the input everyone! If anyone else would like to throw their opinion in, it is welcome!

Galante, would you mind letting me know what seller you used when you get them (if he is based in the U.S.)?

Thanks

Has anyone also heard the Hertz HSK165's to be able to compare them to the PRO60's? Looks like I can get both for about the same price.
the hertz are much better in being natural, clean/clear tweets, and nice midbass!
