Boston Pro60 Install options

Decided to get a set of Boston Pro60 & SL95, they will be powered with an Alpine pdx4.150. Alpine idx-x100 w/pxa-h100 will be the source. I have purchased all of this already, just waiting for the HU & processor to come in, should be some time in Feb, I HOPE. It's all going in my new 07 accord.

My question is should I install the Pro60's in coax or not, an installer said the only "good" place to install the tweeters are in the A pillar. I would really like to keep as factory looking as possible.

I had plan to get a G5 sub to complement the lows, but do you think I can get away without a sub for a while if I upgraded the pro60's to the spz60, I know it's a price difference but if it will delay my sub purchase until the summer I will upgrade. But if the pdx4.150 won't power them sufficient unbridged then I won't even bother.

PREVIOUS SETUP

00 Accord

Pioneer 980bt

Phoenix gold elites6 (tweeters installed on door panels)

Infinity Kappas 693.7

Phoenix gold xenon 100.4

Phoenix gold xenon 600.1

Phoenix gold xenon 12d4 ported box to specs.

About 4 bulk packs of dynamat xtreme

i personally dont like a-pillar installations... in my opinion they dont blend as well with the mids.. and the tweeter on the driver side is too close to your head...try putting them in the kicks (or coax) timing/phase issues will be better...and they will sound better at a distance...

Pillar tweets look cool, but it stops there! I always try to put the tweets in the kicks and as close to the mid as I can get it.

The 60's are fine and the top line woofer will not get you the bass you need.

IMO, you should buy a powered Bazooka 10" tube to fill the gap until you can get the right woofer. later you can Ebay the tube and get 80% of your money back.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Bazooka tube huh, you don't hear those recommended everyday.
Like I said, as for temp bass untill he gets what he wants.

I stuck an 8" boston in a bazooka tube and it sounded pretty good.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I would just go with the Pro 60's for now, and skip the pair of SL95's. If you are wanting to upgrade later, you might want to get the pair in the front, and devote the money you allocated for the 6x9's to a pir of subs, instead. You will notice a huge differrence. You can power the pair of subs from the back channels of your Alpine amp, and the front channels to the front pair of comps. Most guys here will tell you the same. You only THINK you will miss the 6x9's in the rear. With the install I have outlined, you will forget all about those 6x9's! For about the same money as the 6x9's you could have a pair of G2's, or a single G3 12". Requiring only a 1 cft sealed box per driver, I don't think you will have a hard time finding room for one.

At later date, you might consider adding the PDX1.1000, and a single SPG555!

The rears are a must, it's a daily driver and I always have passengers, BTW they will be time delayed so it shouldn't hurt my front stage too much. The only thing about my rears is that I am going to waste precious power from the pdx4.150 powering the rears.

I guess I will go ahead and keep the pro60's, anything is better than stock right:D

Previous sub was a single PG Xenon 12 ported. How will it compare to a single G5 10 sealed powered with a pdx1.600? Or should I just step up to a single G5 12 sealed. Trying to save as much space as possible, hence why I went with pdx amps.

Has anyone on here used the prefab box Boston makes with the G5 subs & GTR, looks like an option and simple looking, just what I need. But if they are poorly made I will just skip that option.

The BA box's are well made. I installed a sealed GTR with a Crossfire VR2000D in a Tc and it was outstanding!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I understand what you are looking for, but most people I know that get a system play it so loud that you can hear it two blocks away. I wouldn't imagine your back-seat passengers having a hard time hearing the music from the front speakers, alone. But, whatever....your call.

As for the PDX1.600, and the G5....I think the nominal power handling for the G5s 450W/RMS. I think the full 600W from the PDX would work for brief periods, but I think it might be a bit much for sustained max use. Hence, the suggestion for using the SPG555. It will take the 600W from the PDX1.600, and beg for more. AND, fit in 1 cft sealed.

this forum is WAY too harsh on rear fill.
Dude! It's just that you plain don't need it!! It's a waste of money. Really, if you must have it, then you had better get a 5.1 pro logic surround system. Otherwise, you are just spending money that could help you in other areas. I have heard systems that were INCREDIBLE that only had a front pair/sub!!
