Boston GT50

Crutchfield has got this amp cheap http://www.crutchfield.com/p_065GT50/Boston-Acoustics-GT-50.html?tp=115&tab=review .

Currently I have mtx-thunder564 4-channel amp (70 x 4) feeding 4 Boston Pro 6 components. I also have another MTX feeding one 10" sub. Both of these amps over heat when in use at a higher volume for more than a hour.

Would this Boston amp be an upgrade?

The Boston is approximately 15 to 20 watts less per channel, but do I need the extra watts and whom would be cleaner?

Chances are you are not going to hear a 15 watt difference. I have not tested that amp to speak about it, but would love to.

I am not that savvy with all of the tech stuff.

With my current amps I have the gains down and still do not need to have my volume more than half way. It puts out way more than enough power.

If I were to crank up the volume all of the way up it gets distorted. I have read that having volume about 90% gives you the most accurate sound but the gains would be so far down. I have found the best sound balance where I have them.

I know that the amperage from the amplifier is supposed to match the speakers. So, my thought is that the Boston amp should match their own speakers. But, the big questions are does the clean power of the Boston amp better the MTXs. Will I notice the difference clarity or loss of power? And hopefully it won't over heat.

There is a big belle in the classifieds. Not that the Boston is bad,

but it cannot compare to an older big belle. Also, you need to look

at your input voltage during heavy usage, low voltage can contribute to

your issues.

The old and new HU should have 4-volts outs. I also Had an Audiocontrol three.1 which had 14 volt outs. But the shop that installed it said that was too much. But it still does the same thing, so I have a $300 three.1 sitting there doing nothing.

How do you get to the classifieds?

I'm talking about your battery input voltage, not your pre-out voltage:laugh:

Under heavy usage put a dmm on your battery and measure. if you see a lot

of 11's or less, that's bad news. Boston is as good, maybe a little cleaner than

what you have, not as powerful. If your voltage is low, fix that problem first.

Also do this test with the engine on at an idle.
